Nairobi, Jan 28The amended Kenyan law on wildlife — Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 2019 — came into force on the 4th January 2019.

Shamini Jayanathan, Barrister-at-Law and Director of Wildlife Law & Justice, Space for Giants, says that the amended law represents a more sophisticated, nuanced approach to criminal offences in the field of conservation.

It is a welcome step as the Wildlife Conservation Management Act 2013 (WCMA 2013) had many gaps that made prosecution difficult, she says.
