Nairobi, Feb 13 – A wildlife photographer has caught on camera images of a rare black leopard in the Wilderness Camp in Kenya’s Laikipia County.

Will Burrad-Lucas said in his blog that be set up camera traps in the wild in January after hearing reports of a black panther sighting in Laikipia and following leopard tracks with a guide. The images of the unique big cat were caught on the camera traps after four nights of waiting in the wild.

The increase of the dark-coloured pigment in animal skin and fur is known as melanism. It is rare and sightings of the unique animals kindles considerable human interest. The phenomenon can be the result of natural genetic mutations.
