The Louis Trichardt Magistrates Court in Limpopo has sentenced five rhino poachers to 15 years each behind bars, and a sixth man to ten years.

The six were found guilty of illegally hunting and dehorning a white rhino bull in the Mapungubwe National Park and world heritage site almost two years ago.

South African National Parks’ (SANParks) Reynold Thakuli says they welcome the outcome.

“We are quite happy as SANParks with this development. It shows that our justice system is serious about wildlife crimes.”
